Cigarette Causes Early Morning Deck Fire

The Fargo Fire Department responds to an early morning deck fire.

Crews arrived on scene to the home located at 906 26th Street North just after 3:30 this morning, after a neighbor reported seeing smoke in the backyard.

The fire was only limited to the deck of the home.

People inside were able to get out safely and no one was hurt.

Officials say the cause of the fire was a discarded cigarette.

“We encourage if there smoking on their decks to have some type of proof container, or mental container that they can extinguish their cigarette out. This would help prevent occurrences like this that seem to happen way too frequently,” said Bruce Anderson Fargo Fire Battalion Chief.

Crews were able to put the fire out within three minutes of arriving on scene.
