Middle Schoolers Dodging For A Good Cause
A group of students from Discovery Middle School are dodging for a good cause.
26 teams entered in a dodge ball tournament to raise money for the non–profit Gigi’s Playhouse.
Players wasted no time when it came to the opening rush.
It may look like warfare but believe it when they say, there is a good reason behind this.
Student Leadership Adviser Lisa Keiselbach explains, “This year we were contacted by a family who’s part of Gigi’s Playhouse and they said,’Hey, would you want to partner with us?'”
After leadership students from Discovery Middle School celebrated Valentines at Gigi’s, they wanted to continue giving back.
Gigi’s Playhouse is an achievement center supporting families with Down Syndrome.
“I think it’s important for all kids to have an opportunity to be like other kids and use every resource they can to be how they want to be,” says 8th grader Erica Peters.
It’s the fun in fundraising.
Egos may be bruised but they’ll bounce back when they remember what this is all for.
“I don’t think our students know quite how much their role in the dodgeball tournament means,” says Keiselbach.
Over $450 is just how much they mean.
All this, funded by students.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for kids our age to get involved with the community. Help others with their needs to help other kids who are just like us that are our age’s needs and disability. I’m just glad we can help them,” says 8th grader Jack Lingle.
For all the mighty muscles and roaring cheers, every good cause is worth some entertaining.
All proceeds raised will go directly to Gigi’s Playhouse to support Down syndrome children.
