Commissioners Move Forward on Cass County Jail Expansion
As the North Dakota inmate population continues to grow, Fargo wants to be prepared.
The jail expansion made it into this morning’s building committee agenda.
While the Cass County Jail is currently not full, commissioners have agreed to move forward with a study estimating future jail expansion costs and models.
The jail was originally constructed with expansion in mind.
“And a project like this if we were going to construct it by the time we went through planning and design. It takes quite a number of years so it’s not if we foresee that need in ten years we can’t wait ten years to start the construction we have to be several years ahead of that,” says Cass County Administrator, Keith Berndt.
The study will look at space needs and costs.
Commissioners expect the study to be completed by the end of the year.
