Golfers Get an Early Swing on the Season
Golfers get into the swing of things, earlier than usual.
It’s a golfer’s dream.
Thanks to some extra warm temps, the golf season is getting an almost month early start.
But as each year passes, it looks like this early start is becoming more and more of the norm.
Tim Fiechtner golfs until the last possible day of the season.
So, when it comes time for opening day, he only has one word.
“Ahhh, magic,” says Tim, who is a Former Golf Professional.
It’s the earliest start to the season for Village Green Public Golf Course and with each year, the record continues to shatter.
“2012 broke the old record, last year broke that record and this year broke this record,” says Golf Professional, Russ Nelson.
For Sawyer Jaegr, he feels good to be back on the green.
“I cut out of class a little early but I’m one of the first people out so enjoying it,” says Sawyer.
Extra golf time means extra revenue too.
“So if you can become the first early course to be open then you’re going to reap the benefits of that so it can be dollar wise really a big deal,” says Nelson.
“While I’m not a golfer, I couldn’t pass up this beautiful day without taking a swing myself or two or three.”
“It certainly is great to be taking real turf out of the ground even if it is still a little hard,” says Tim.
And as Tim soaks up every bit of sunshine he can, he also has another wish.
“Even though I’m going to Arizona a little late in a couple of weeks I hope it turns crappy again.”
Because when it comes to the Upper Midwest, you never know what the weather holds.
Meadows Public Golf Course in Moorhead also opened their driving range this morning.
On Friday, both courses will be opening for the season.
And while Village Green has seen several record breaker openers, it was just in 2013 when the course opened April 28th.
