Getting Home Safe After St. Patrick’s Day Fun

North Dakota Tourism officials say that currently seven percent of the state’s population is of Irish descent.

Irish or not, everyone can join in on the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.

Law enforcement are gearing up for this busy holiday weekend.

It’s one of the busiest times for both taxi companies and law enforcement.

There will be a lot of drinking but if you’re planning on hitting the town, get ready for a hectic weekend.

“It’s going to be a crazy night,” says F-M Taxi Services owner, Abdoulie Barry.

F-M Taxi Services will have all hands on deck.

More than a dozen of the company’s drivers will be available in the Metro.

Law enforcement will also have officers working around the clock.

“What we normally do is when we have holidays such as St. Patrick’s Day that tend to have people consuming more alcohol than normal. We have extra patrols out looking for intoxicated drivers,” says Deputy Chief Ross Renner of Fargo Police.

A popular drink choice for St. Patrick’s is the Irish stout, Guinness.

A 2014 statistic shows that on this day, Americans will down 3 million pints of Guinness.

But Fargo police say it is best to skip the drinking and driving all together.

Renner says, “We ask they make arrangements prior to starting to consume alcohol.”

Cops will be patrolling all weekend.

If you’ve been drinking, it’s better to hail a cab and make sure you get home safely.

“When they need a cab, we set ourselves up ready to pick them up and drive them to their destinations,” says F-M Taxi Services driver Dickson Adon.

Adon is one of the many taxi drivers that will be out making the rounds.

Taxi phone lines will get busy.

But this taxi company suggests downloading the Gata Hub app to hail cabs faster.

“We’re going to have a shuttle van downtown for the students. We urge them to download the app,” says Barry.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

A four leaf clover won’t get you out of a DUI.
