Celebrating Easter at the Red River Zoo
It turns out Easter Egg hunts aren’t just for the kids.
Animals at the Red River Zoo also spent the morning looking for eggs.
Zookeepers hid eggs throughout the animal’s exhibits.
The eggs are made of paper mache and filled with different treats for the animals.
The egg hunt is just another example of the animals’ enrichment programs, something the public doesn’t always get to see.
“Enrichment is done with all of the animals here at the Red River Zoo and it’s an activity that we do daily so the animals have some stimulus in their exhibits. So we hide their food, or we change their food, or change their furniture in the exhibits and this is one of the fun things we can do to show the public what we do,” says Red River Zoo Executive Director, Lisa Tate.
Zoo keepers also had a few Easter themed keeper chats, featuring their chicks and rabbits.
Starting April 24th the Zoo will be open every day from 10 AM to 7 PM.
