Lunafest Helps Support, Empower Local Women
Six short films, made for women, by women, and they’re coming to Fargo.
This film fest is about much more than a movie on the screen.
If you check these films out, you’re directly helping local women’s programs.
You’re also indirectly helping them realize that they can accomplish great things.
Lunafest brings short films to different cities around the country.
Different genres. Different styles.
But all connected.
“The films are all made by, for, and about women,” says Tara Ekren with Junior League of Fargo-Moorhead.
The curtains rise on Friday for Lunafest at the Fargo Theatre.
The Junior League sponsors the show.
“It’s a great fit,” says Ekren
The group reaches out into the community, doing everything from volunteering at food pantries and shelters to building parks and hosing film festivals.
Ekren says the flicks, “all kind of have a sense of hope and bringing a voice to women filmmakers.”
At least 85 percent of the proceeds from the festival go to the Junior League.
The rest goes to breast cancer research.
Drekker Brewing is helping the cause, donating proceeds from Happy Hour this month to the group.
“Great community involvement and then bringing arts to downtown and the focus on women is something we really supported,” says Drekker Co-Founder Mark Bjornstad.
Lunafest doesn’t just raise money for a local charity.
These films also help inspire young women and show that they can achieve almost any of their dreams.
“Whatever you want to do, put your heart in it and accomplish what your goals are,” says Ekren. “Set your goals, and do whatever it takes to get them done.”
The Junior League hopes to show young women how to be leaders.
Festival organizers say what better example than these films, led entire by women?
Doors open for Lunafest at 6:45 Thursday
The movies start at 7:30. You can find tickets at the Fargo Theatre.
