“Lace Up And Go” for Heart Health at Sanford

Sanford hosted a community lunchtime walk to help bring awareness to the importance of daily physical activity.

“Lace up and Go” celebrates the American Heart Association’s National Walking Day.

Doctors, nurses and even a walking heart mascot named “Hearty” did laps around the hospital.

Heart experts say just a little bit of exercise each day can help you live a longer, healthier life.

“Just lacing up, putting on your tennis shoes, getting outside for 30 minutes a day, is extremely important to reduce your risk factors. If you have high blood pressure, if you have high cholesterol. It’s a wonderful way to decrease those risk factors, manage stress, and then to keep a healthy weight as well,” says Holly Reinhardt, Clinical Manager of Prevention/Wellness & Cardiac Rehab at Sanford Health.

Participants could tally the minutes they walked by posting on social media.

The goal is for people to walk 100,000 minutes nationwide in one day.
