Connecting with You: Ugly Food of the North and a Little Free Garden
The people of Ugly Food of the North are launching a new project to promote how to grow sustainable food.
The Little Free Garden project promotes growing fresh food by tending to a low- maintenance garden.
The community is invited to create their own four by two raised-bed garden made from untreated cedar wood.
The project serves as homage to the Homestead Act of 1862 that allowed people to claim land to start a life.
Organizers say they believe food has the power to build relationships and create a sense of community.
“The garden creates an opportunity for people to be reconnected with the land. It gives them an opportunity to grow fresh, local food. And I think that having the gardens in people’s front yard is creating that tiny community spaces for people to connect with one another,” said Gia Rassier with Ugly Food of the North.
You can build your garden at Concordia College April 23rd.
