Sanford Screening for Heads and Necks
Sanford physicians screened nearly 100 patients for oral, head and neck cancer for no cost at all.
It’s all part of the oral, head and neck cancer awareness month.
The earlier these cancers are caught, the easier they are to treat.
Nearly 40,000 Americans are diagnosed with these cancers each year.
The screening is simple.
It only takes about ten minutes and is completely pain free.
“It’s just a nice service to the community because not everyone can afford to come into the doctor so it’s nice to have a free outlet where people can come in if they’re worried about something but just haven’t been able to get in due to payment issues,” says Sanford Head and Neck Surgeon, Dr. Andrew Terrell.
Terrell says signs of oral cancer often go unnoticed.
Symptoms include a continuous sore throat, trouble swallowing, weight loss with no explanation and ear pain.
