Ten people in North Dakota and western Minnesota died due to on-the-job accidents in the last year.
Labor leaders say North Dakota ranks nearly last in the nation in workplace safety.
They call on elected officials to support more funding for safety programs.
“Better worker protections, you know,” says Terry Jones with the United Labor Council. Better whistleblower protections so that if there are safety violations going on somewhere in the state, an employee isn’t that concerned about the employer firing them for reporting it.”
Labor leaders say on-the-job deaths will likely spike in North Dakota as activity in the oil patch picks back up again.
