Fargo Marathon 2016: New Events Hitting the Pavement
One of the area’s biggest events is now less than two weeks away…and this year there are two new events to get even more involved.
“It’s kind of a celebration of the community. The courses that we run…we really try to highlight the gems of the community – if you will – the places you’d want to see,” said Lead Organizer Mark Knutson.
This year there are more ways to get involved.
Monday has a new bicycle race, and on Tuesday, you can run with your dog.
Also, Friday night’s 5K has been rebranded in honor of Officer Jason Moszer.
“We’re really trying to bring the community together as an act of solidarity…as an act of appreciation to those heroes that surround us every day,” said Knutson.
The Fargo Marathon is the region’s biggest annual event, and many people across the region are training for the events.
“I’m prepping for the 10K, so we’ve been running a little bit with the kids and trying to get ready and …more or less ..I’m running with a bunch of friends,” said Amber Vance, a yoga instructor from Casselton.
And for many of the participants, the race isn’t about the competition.
“It’s not really a big competition for me. It’s more of a community … and running with my friends,” said Vance.
If you want to take part in the events, you’ll need to act fast.
“If you’re thinking about it…if you’re…hey, I might do 10K or even maybe the half… you better sign up now,” said Knutson.
The organizers hope to get at least 10,000 runners or walkers to participate in this year’s 5K, which is held on Friday night.
The main marathon will be run on Saturday.
If you want to sign up for any of these events, you can visit the marathon’s website for more information.
