Fargo Named Tree City USA
Fargo is branching out – now it’s a Tree City USA.
Middle school students celebrated the honor by planting around 100 trees at Jefferson West Park.
To be named a Tree City USA, a city needs a tree board, tree care ordinance, comprehensive community forestry program, and an official Arbor Day observance.
Having all these kids dig in and add to the greenery doesn’t hurt.
“They get the work done fast, and they really seem to enjoy it no matter what the weather. Today isn’t the best weather, but they’re all in good spirits and they love it,” said Sam DeMarais, Fargo Park Forester.
Fargo has quite a green history.
This is the 39th year the National Arbor Day Foundation has named Fargo a Tree City USA.
