Officer Moszer Honored During Law Enforcement Memorial Day

A gloomy day befitting a somber occasion.

Local law enforcement honoring their fellow officers, lost in the line of duty.

On February 11th, 2016, Fargo Police Officer Jason Moszer paid the ultimate price for our safety.

He joined many other officers who have fallen.  At Lindenwood Park, these brave men and women were honored not for the way they died, but for the way they lived.

The Fargo and Moorhead Police Departments come together every year for a special occasion.

The guests of honor are not standing in line next to their brothers and sisters in blue, who remember the price the honored paid, a price officers face every day.

“It’s a time for us to come together and remember them and recognize the sacrifice that they made for their department, and their community,” said David Todd, Fargo Police Chief.

This time around, one of their own isn’t here.  Officer Moszer was killed during a domestic dispute call.  He is not alone.

In 2015, 128 officers across the country were killed in the line of duty.  That’s one officer every 61 hours.

Officers that Senator John Hoeven praise as selfless in the face of danger.

“They put their lives on the line every morning they put on that uniform, they’re out there for us, and we saw that with Jason this year, here in Fargo. He paid the ultimate sacrifice. We need to keep them in our hearts and prayers every day, but a day like today it’s a special day to say thank you,” said Senator John Hoeven.

Moszer was even a hero after death; his organs saved five lives.

But as Police Chief David Todd says, officers aren’t just heroes in death. They should be heroes in the community every day they put on a badge.

“It’s important to live heroically, give our loved ones and our profession our best. Because as we painfully and tragically experienced. Life can be snatched away in a moment’s notice,” Chief Todd

The bell tolls 128 times, ringing once for every officer lost.  People here take a moment of silence to remember, but never forget, the sacrifice each officer takes on.

Today’s memorial service is part of National Police Week, held in May each year since 1962.
