“College” for Kids and Teens Sparks Creativity

Some local grade schoolers get back to the classroom for a lesson on creativity.

Whether it was throwing pottery on a wheel, learning how to scuba dive, or about kitchen chemistry, these kids kept their school brains alive and let their creativity fly.

These College for Kids and Teens instructors are using their passions and skills to share their knowledge and hopefully, spark a new interest for these day camp kids.

“It’s another opportunity for them to experience something new. Art is a great way for you to express yourself, especially an adolescent. And to get to work with something as tactile as clay and ceramics I think is really great for all kids,” said Chris Alveshere, Pottery Instructor at College for Kids and Teens.

Students are making their own pottery design, bringing it to life and then taking it home.

Since this is a first for many, it brings on a lot of laughs and plenty of clean up.

“It just lets you do your own thing and you’re free,” said sixth grader Mari Nunn.

One of the goals for College for Kids and Teens is to encourage creativity and to spark interest in other activities.

“It’s all the fun components of science, the back to back experiments. Things that make you go oooo and ahh…it’s fun to see their expressions,” said Kitchen Chemistry Instructor Brittany Hamann.

“Really fun, I like it. I definitely want to come here again,” said third grader Isaac Nutt.

The annual camp goes through July 14th.

Some of the other activities include electric art, video game making, robotics and painting like Picasso.
