World Peace Run Comes Through Fargo

From New York to Mexico, though California and Canada, with even more stops along the way and then all the way back, the World Peace run follows a 10,000 mile path through North America spreading the message of positivity by passing their torch symbolizing peace to people they meet.

“It’s been very inspiring; we’ve met with different religious leaders with met with many, many, many schools,” peace runner Tavishi Matthews says.

Now it’s Fargo’s turn.

The group of international runners travel through Main Avenue and up University Avenue in the final leg of their trip for the day ending at the Boys and Girls Club on 18th Street.

They’re greeted enthusiastically by the kids there and once everyone settles down, they let the kids guess what country each of the runners are from.

The World Peace Run feels one of the best ways to get their message out is through music and song.

Peace runner Arpan DeAngelo says, “You know music, it’s easy for children to understand. They love music, kids love to sing so we teach them some really nice sweet simple songs.”

After the jam session the peace runners get down to business, asking the kids what peace means to each of them and telling them how to spread peace to others.

“We keep doing it because we feel there’s more good people, there’s more goodness, there’s more that unites us than divides us and we’re optimists,” DeAngelo adds.

They have a long day ahead of them tomorrow as they start again on their run back to New York.

The peace runners’ next stop is Minneapolis.

They are scheduled to arrive there this Friday.

They’ll return to New York City in August and one thing’s for sure, they’ll be spreading peace all along the way.
