Community Forum Tackles Heroin Epidemic
There are less overdoses happening in the metro, but the heroin epidemic is far from over.
People from across the metro stopped by the Fargo Theatre for the Eyes Wide Open Community Forum.
The event includes a documentary highlighting the grip of opiates as well as an open panel discussion.
This is phase 2 of the initiative to make sure community members are aware of the continuing epidemic.
“There’s still overdoses happening and still deaths happening so we’re hopeful that there is a downturn and a positive effect based on our efforts but it’s hard to tell and we can’t lose momentum, we got to keep on top of it and that’s what we’re doing,” says U.S. Attorney, Chris Myers.
Since the first community forum, Myers says he has indicted 8 or 9 fentanyl dealers locally.
Phrase 3 of the event will focus on answering questions about where people can turn to for help in battling addiction.
