Taking Major: Moorhead Woman Searches for Stolen Therapy Pet
A Moorhead woman’s therapy dog was stolen from her car this weekend while it was parked outside Taxman on 8th Street South.
Sara Nelson says she had left her dog Major in the vehicle with the AC running.
Major is a blue American pit bull terrier with a large white chest.
Sara Nelson says losing her dog is like losing her second child.
“My poor baby,” Nelson says.
Sara Nelson says she loves her dog so much, she even had a canvas made.
“He hangs on my wall all the time,” Nelson says.
She was away from the car for only 15 minutes.
“Five minutes later, I had my friend come out and check on him, he was fine, and then I came out probably ten minutes after that and he was gone. The weird thing about it is his leash was left, and he’s 60 pounds,” Nelson says.
She says He’s more than a best friend. Major is a therapy dog.
“I’ve always kind of suffered with anxiety, and he’s always been there to help me cope. He’s my listening ear. I talk to him like I would anyone,” Nelson says.
Moorhead police say they’re looking at surveillance video. A witness nearby may have seen the person who took the dog.
“They had seen a white female being described as heavy set with curly hair, walking away from the area with a dog that may be the dog in question,” Sgt. Clint Stephenson from the Moorhead Police Department says.
Nelson says Major had an appointment to get micro chipped two days after he was taken.
“I had that appointment for over a month, and now he’s nowhere,” Nelson says.
With over 500 shares on Facebook, and two reported sightings of the dog in Moorhead, Sara is not giving up hope for the safe return of her beloved friend.
“I just feel it’s not the time to be emotional. If I go into a negative place right now, I will never come out of it, and I can’t do it. I’ve got to find him,” Nelson says.
