Michelle Schumacher: The Many Faces of a Tragedy

It’s been five months since the standoff that left both shooter Marcus Schumacher and Fargo Officer Jason Moszer dead.

When KVRR News first heard that Michelle Schumacher was being evicted from her home, we wanted to reach out and find out why she is still facing an uphill battle.

We spoke with her at her apartment, which she must vacate in just a few short days.

“When you have your own depression its more than you have to deal with and I tried to get him help and nobody helped him,” says Michelle Schumacher, the wife of the man who shot and killed Fargo Police Officer, Jason Moszer.

Being labeled the wife of a killer has been tough for Michelle.

“I just want to get to a place where I can sleep at night,” says Michelle.

She says for a while she was living in a dark hole but in the past month things began to get better.

Until she received a notice she was being evicted. With not a lot of money, Michelle doesn’t know what’s next.

“I didn’t realize how much it cost to rebuild with the fact that I walked out of there with what is on my back and that’s all I owned,” says Michelle.

Michelle is a paralegal typist.

But after getting bit by a dog, she’s now without work.

“After the dog fight I couldn’t use my hand at all I’m just regaining use in my hand,” says Michelle.

And as if things couldn’t get tougher, Michelle and her friend say someone has been spewing lies about Michelle.

“A girl has been spreading rumors,” says Street Chaplain, Maarja Krogh.

And those lies, Michelle is worried could spread making it even tougher to find another place for her to call home.

“I just want to be at peace,” says Michelle.

So when Michelle begins to feel overwhelmed she takes out a few cards.

“They all signed it, they didn’t have to do it, but how nice of them,” says Michelle.

Reminding her, she’s not alone.

But even these cards can’t always stop these feelings from flooding back.

“I was talking to my friend on the deck I heard a firework I screamed and ran into my house and was shaking,” says Michelle.

She misses the man she once called her husband.

“That’s the smile I remember, he built cell phone towers, he was a dare devil, he loved life,” says Michelle.

But now she says she’s ready, to finally be at peace.

Michelle says she is now searching for an apartment that allows cats.

She tells me she is worried for the apartment search, because she has been discriminated against solely based on her last name.
