Mosquito Numbers Reach Record Levels
Mosquito numbers have reached unprecedented levels in parts of Cass County.
A trap near Hunter yesterday had more than 20,000 mosquitoes.
It only takes an average of 35 per trap for crews to consider spraying.
Aerial spraying Tuesday night in Fargo and West Fargo started around 8 pm.
Truck spraying started in rural communities Tuesday night around 8:30 pm.
It shouldn’t interfere with any outdoor activities, including Night to Unite events.
“I don’t think there’s any reason to run and hide and flee the area or anything like that. We have done aerial spraying and truck–mount spraying a number of times. This is kind of rapid succession, but ultimately the products that we’re using are very low toxicity,” says Ben Prather from Cass County Vector Control.
Grand Forks sprayed Tuesday night between 9 pm and 1 am.
Moorhead will spray later this week.
