The Heat Is Even Getting To The Streets

The heat is getting to the streets, causing a part of 42nd Street South to buckle.

Fargo Public Works spent the afternoon working on a temporary emergency repair.

Northbound traffic on 42nd Street South near 32nd Avenue was down to one lane while crews worked.

A driver noticed the buckled street yesterday afternoon.

Crews expect the road to reopen later this evening.

“It’s kind of one of those things that comes with summer. The roads are designed to be able to expand and contract but every once in a while there’s an area or site that just shifts differently,” says Mark Williams with Fargo Public Works.

This is the second major buckle this summer season.

Williams says even though the air temperature hasn’t hit 100 the pavement has well exceeded that.

He says the pavement was around 113 degrees when it buckled.
