Moorhead Community Service Officer’s Brave River Rescue

A man didn’t expect to be holding on for his life when he was walking along the river on Tuesday afternoon.

Moorhead Community Service Officer Cameron Cordes happened to be nearby when he heard on the scanner that a man was in the river.

He slipped and fell into the river and was hanging on to a tree.

A kayaker saw him and called for help.

The man was in the river for about two hours, causing him to suffer from hypothermia.

“He was too cold to move and he wasn’t able to use his legs at that time,” said Cordes. “So I walked out and climbed out onto that tree and jumped out in the water to check his legs to make sure there were no injuries. And from there, picked him up and carried him to the shore.”

The area where the man was rescued was shallow enough for Cordes to be able to stand.

The man was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.
