Officers Cleared in 2015 Shooting of Jamar Clark
The two Minneapolis police officers involved in the fatal shooting of Jamar Clark will not be disciplined.
Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau says the officers did not violate police department policies and the BCA and internal affairs investigations did not uncover any wrongdoing.
Jamar Clark died on November 15th of 2015 after paramedics called police and said the 24-year-old man was trying to stop them from helping an assault victim.
Harteau says video and DNA evidence shows Clark was not handcuffed and tried to grab an officer’s gun before the other officer shot him.
“Every single day, police officers face quickly escalating situations where suspects refuse to comply with orders,” said Chief Harteau. “After an extensive review of this entire incident, I have concluded that these officers did not dictate the outcome of this incident.”
Outrage over the shooting sparked weeks of protests in the state of Minnesota that shut down shopping malls, events and even interstates.
