Fargo Little League Proposes New Facility
The Fargo Park District says there is a need for indoor turf facilities in the metro.
Fargo Little League Baseball hopes to see one soon.
Young athletes carry big dreams, and so do their supporters.
That’s why Fargo Little League wants the best for their players.
“We have a dream of supplying every asset that we can to make that possible,” said Ryan Such, who is President of Fargo Little League Baseball. “That someday someone from Fargo–Moorhead area can be on ESPN representing Fargo Little League.”
The league currently practices in a 3,500 square feet space with batting cages.
There’s not that much room.
They are hoping a new facility will change that.
The league teamed up with the Fargo Park District to see what’s possible.
They have a proposal of building a 12,000 square foot facility across the street from Fargo South High School.
“This new facility would ideally allow us to have an entire infield, so we can do infield drills and just be a bigger facility that gives us more things to utilize,” said Such.
But the noise that comes along with this project concerns people living nearby.
“Right now it’s a parking lot, and there are four fields located there,” said Clay Whittlesey, who is Director of Recreation. “Our adult leagues play there. So they would be re-purposed with shorter fences for the kids on those four fields and the facility would be right adjacent to the northwest in the parking lot area.”
People who live in the neighborhood joined the organizations at a meeting and shared concerns such as traffic and field accessibility.
The Park District says people shouldn’t really see a change.
“If they are opposed to it, they should get up and be heard and our commissioners and our management team will take that input and determine whether we should move forward with the project or not,” said Whittlesey.
Fargo Little League hopes to be building by this time next year.
The proposed project is 100% privately funded and will not be affecting local taxpayer money.
