Minnesota Couple New Record Holders for Longest Marriage in the State

One Minnesota couple is the record holder in the state for the longest marriage.

They have been married for 78 years!

Verna, 95, and her 98-year-old husband Ervin were married in 1938.

Verna says as a wedding gift, her father gave the couple 20 chickens and the two went to Iowa and picked corn for their honeymoon.

They have mourned the loss of a child but also celebrated the blessing of a great-great grandchild.

“I just knew he was going to be my husband,” said Verna with a smile. “We took our vows very seriously. It all worked out pretty good.”

When asked what the secret to a long marriage is, Verna said a strong faith life and Ervin added not arguing can go a long way.
