Three Arrested After Shootout with Authorities in Hennepin County

Three suspects are in custody in the fatal shooting of a Minnesota man on Wednesday that set off a police chase on the highway.

Police say they were responding to reports of a shooting at a Prior Lake home when they saw three people speed away in a car from the scene.

James Herron, 42, was taken to the hospital for gunshot wounds but later died.

Authorities chased the suspects to an Edina highway exit ramp where one of the suspects allegedly fired at the officers, who returned fire and injured one of the suspects.

Police say they are upset they had to use force but pleased with the outcome.

“We’re all thankful that the responding officers handled this incident professionally and more importantly that they all were uninjured,” said Sheriff Rich Stanek with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say the suspect who was shot is being treated at the hospital but did not comment on his condition or if he would survive.
