Bison Baseball Looks for Momentum in Last Stretch of Homestand

FARGO, N.D. – The Omaha Mavericks defeated the North Dakota State University baseball team, 3-1, in the opening game of a three-game Summit League series Friday, April 21, at Newman Outdoor Field.

With the loss, the Bison drop to 18-19 overall and 9-7 in Summit League play while the Mavericks improve to 9-28 on the season and 6-10 in league action.

Junior Drew Fearing sophomore Alec Abercrombie and freshman Tucker Rohde each tallied two hits to lead North Dakota State at the plate in the game. Abercrombie also tallied NDSU’s lone RBI and stole a pair of bases.

Senior right-handed starting pitcher Luke Lind (3-4) suffered the loss on the mound for NDSU after allowing three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.

The Bison outhit the Mavs in the contest, 8-7, but were just 1-for-9 at the plate with runners in scoring position.

Infielder Sam Palensky went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple to lead the Mavericks offensively.

Omaha left-handed starter Sam Murphy (3-5) earned the win after giving up just one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings pitched. Reliever Grant Suponchick tallied his second save of the season for the Mavericks after throwing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.

North Dakota State and Omaha are slated to play game two of the series at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Newman Outdoor Field.
