Bison Softball Embracing Underdog Role Again

NDSU faces Oklahoma at 2 p.m. on Friday

FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics) – This will be the fourth meeting between North Dakota State and Oklahoma. Oklahoma leads the series 2-1. The Bison lost the season opening series against the Sooners 9-0 and 7-2 in 2006. NDSU defeated Oklahoma 1-0 in 11 innings in the first game of the 2009 NCAA Norman Regional.

This would be the third meeting between North Dakota State and Tulsa. The Bison lead the series 2-0, winning both games (3-2, 4-1) at the 2009 NCAA Norman Regional. This would be the seven meeting between North Dakota State and Arkansas, the series is tied 3-3. The Bison and Razorbacks split a pair of games at the 2016 Texas Classic, Arkansas won the first 8-4, the Bison the second 7-2. NDSU won two of three against Arkansas at the 2007 Nebraska tournament, the Razorbacks won 3-0 in 2006.

North Dakota State is making its eighth trip to the NCAA tournament over the past nine years. The Bison are 8-14 in seven previous trips and 4-6 over the past three seasons.

NDSU won the 2009 NCAA Norman Regional and advanced to the Tempe Super Regional at Arizona State. The eight Bison tournament wins have come against Oklahoma (2009), Tulsa (2 / 2009), Hawai’i (2012), Auburn (2014), Fresno State (2015), BYU (2015) and Weber State (2016).

NDSU is making its 15th NCAA appearance overall and have a 32-29 record. The Bison won the 2000 NCAA Division II national championship.
