Julia Louis-Dreyfus Announces Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Julia says she has supportive and caring family and friends and...that she has fantastic insurance

NATIONAL — Just days after taking home her sixth straight Emmy for Best Actress for VEEP, Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes a startling announcement.

In a message on Twitter, the 56-year-old actress wrote “One in eight women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one.”

Louis-Dreyfus said she has supportive and caring family and friends and…that she has fantastic insurance.

She is also using the moment to encourage her fans to fight all cancers and “Make universal health care a reality.”

HBO revealed Louis-Dreyfus received the diagnosis the day after winning her sixth Emmy for “VEEP”, as she broke the record for the most Emmys won by a performer for a single role.

Louis-Dreyfus won her first Emmy best actress in 2006 for “The New Adventures of Old Christine.”

Many people reached out to Louis-Dreyfus after her diagnosis Tweet, including “Veep” co-star, Tony Hale, who said simply “We love this woman.”

Former Vice President, Joe Biden, also reached out, saying, “We Veeps stick together.”

HBO says “Veep” will end with the seventh season, but Louis-Dreyfus’ health has nothing to do with the decision.

They released a statement, saying:

“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time.  We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of ‘Veep.'”
