Now May be the Time to Book that Winter Getaway
Travel Agents say November and December are the most common months for airlines to promote deals that get you more bang for your buck
FARGO, N.D. — You may have noticed a handful of promotions from airlines announcing discounted getaways.
This is no accident.
Local travel agents say this winter, there are some key reasons why these airlines are pushing vacations.
If you’re looking to escape the snow, now might be the best time to plan for some fun in the sun.
Travel agents say November and December are the most common months for airlines to promote deals that get you more bang for your buck.
“Right now, they’re just promoting a bunch of different incentives trying to get people to start booking for winter travel that haven’t booked,” says Patty Auka, a travel agent from Travel Travel.
This winter, however, you might see an even greater number of promotions sent your way.
The devastating hurricanes this fall may have played a role.
“You’ll typically see a big push this time of year in general, but I think we’re seeing a little bit more just because of some of the things that have happened around the world the last few months,” Auka said.
Auka also says if you’re booking a hotel and find a better price later, you should call back and ask them to match it.
“Start looking early because even if we book something and the hotel price goes down, we can always re-book at the lower rate,” said Auka. “I had people who booked Punta Cana in August. I’ve checked the hotel rates three times and the rates have gone down three different times. That’s $300 more in their pocket.”
So if you’re trying to escape the cold, now is the time to take advantage of a hot deal.
