Sen. Tina Smith Brings Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to SOTU as Her Guest
Smith held Flanagan's role as lieutenant governor from 2015 to 2018
Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.) brought Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to the State of the Union address as her guest.
Earlier, Flanagan said she hoped the president would address issues like healthcare and infrastructure.
Smith calls the government shutdown “unnecessary and wasteful” and says she’s confident another one won’t happen.
“My mom always used to say actions speak louder than words so it’s not only the words that come out of his mouth but the actions he follows up with,” Smith said.
“There’s a lot of excitement around here and I’m happy to be a part of it. But this also is serious work. I hope we’re able to model what it means for the state and federal government to work together for people,” Flanagan said.
Smith held Flanagan’s role as lieutenant governor from 2015 to 2018.
