Crews Remove Possibly Explosive Chemical From NDSU Lab

FARGO, N.D. – A bomb squad, police and fire crews disposed of an aged chemical at North Dakota State University’s Dunbar Laboratory that can explode if crystallized.

The Fargo Fire Department says it took part in a planned removal of the chemical tetrahydrofuran with the Cass County Bomb Squad and NDSU Police at 10:30 Tuesday morning. A fire official says the chemical in the lab had not crystallized, but crews were taking the safest precautions possible.

NDSU is on spring break, so the campus was mostly empty during the chemical removal.

The building was secured in two hours and people were allowed back inside. Fargo Fire says there is no ongoing issue with the lab.
