Fargo Marathon Adds New Course Option to Cyclothon

After four years of going strong, Fargo Marathon is adding to its Cyclothon

FARGO, N.D.– Marathon week is kicking off with the fourth annual Fargo Marathon Cyclothon.

This year, there’s a new course option for cyclists.

After four years of going strong, Fargo Marathon is adding to its Cyclothon.

Organizers are expanding it to include a 15 mile race along with the original 26.2 mile race to get more people involved.

“I think they care about it,” says executive director of the Fargo Marathon, Mark Knutson. “They like to see things like this, its positive energy for the community. And getting feedback from residents up there in the community, there not upset they just want to know about the event and do what they can to help.”

The course starts at Buffalo Wild Wings on 19th Ave. N. and covers ground in North Fargo, Harwood and Moorhead.

The course ends back at Buffalo Wild Wings where an after party is held for the more than 400 cyclists.

For some people, this is their fourth time competing in the race and for others, it’s a chance to see if they have what it takes to compete.

“Excited, a little nervous,” says first time participant, Thomas Ambrosio. “I’ve been biking a lot recently, so I think I’ll be fine but I’ve never done 15 miles in a stretch before. It will be different for me but it will be great. It’s going to be a great experience.”

Every finisher of the race today will receive an official Fargo Marathon Cyclothon t–shirt and a finisher’s medal. And for the top three places in both of those races will receive cash prizes of $100, $75 or $50.

Even if participants don’t finish in the top three, it’s an opportunity to try something they never have before.

“Just try it,” added Ambrosio. “You never know. You always fail at everything you never try, so just go for it.”
