Mapleton Elementary School families raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
MAPLETON, N.D. (KVRR) – Families came together in Mapleton to help raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Kindergartener Faeryn Holte alone raised $570.
When asked how that makes her feel, Faeryn said, “Happy to help other sick kids.”
“The youngest learners are learning how important it is to be helping other kids,” kindergarten teacher Kayla Dornfeld said.
Mapleton Elementary kids participated in a Trike-A-Thon benefiting St. Jude.
Parents and teachers watched as the kids rode their bikes around the parking lot in circles.
“It just teaches the kids so much about fundraising and just good causes, and no family should ever have to worry about paying bills,” parent Hannah Leier said.
“Part of what we are doing here for our Trike-A-Thon is raising money for those families. Because St. Jude believes that no family should have to worry about the cost of the care their child is getting when they are actually fighting cancer,” Dornfeld said.
The initial goal for the fundraiser was just $500, but the students exceeded that goal and more.
“I decided to raise money for sick kids who have serious problems. I wanted to help them and I asked my family to raise money for them,” Faeryn said.
The students raised a total of $3,795.
Mapleton Elementary is giving kids hope and treatments for their battle with cancer.
