Emerson Port of Entry blockade grows, no arrests so far
EMERSON, Manitoba (KVRR) – A growing number of demonstrators continue to block traffic from passing through the Emerson, Manitoba Port of Entry.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police says all four lanes of Highway 75 near the Port of Entry remain blocked. Police are advising motorists to expect substantial delays and to avoid the Emerson area.
The RCMP says the number of vehicles being used in the blockade has grown to around 75. The vehicles include include semis, pickups, RV’s, snowmobiles and farm implements.
“The RCMP is on scene and will remain on scene until the situation at the border is resolved. We will continue to use discretion to guide our response to this evolving situation.” Police say so far, no tickets have been issued and no arrests have been made in Emerson.
Emergency vehicles and some agriculture-related transports continue to have access, but otherwise there continues to be no traffic flow in the area.
Truck drivers have been organizing blockades in several locations to protest Canada’s COVID-19 restrictions and mandatory vaccinations for commercial truck drivers. Several protesters were arrested Sunday in Ontario, where trucks were being used to block the Ambassador Bridge, linking Detroit and Windsor.
