Dozens of DFL Lawmakers Sign Letter Against Special Session to Resolve SRO Issue

ST. PAUL (KVRR) — Around 40 DFL members of the Minnesota House and Senate are now on record opposing a special session to clear up the new law around physical restraint standards in schools.
Rep. Heather Keeler of Moorhead is among those who signed the letter.
The law has caused a number of police departments and sheriff’s offices to pull their school resource officers due to a threat of lawsuits.
They were pulled in Moorhead and Clay County.
Republicans want a special session and Democratic Gov. Tim Walz has said he would support one if lawmakers come to him with a solution.
House Minority Leader Lisa Demuth, R-Cold Spring, issued a statement on the issue along with a link to the letter shared on X.
“With dozens of school districts currently without SRO coverage across Minnesota, it’s incredibly urgent that we fix this problem, get SROs back in schools, and keep our students safe. It’s disappointing to see so many Democrats opposed to a special session and continuing their irresponsible anti-law enforcement rhetoric.”
