United Way and Bremer Bank pack 700 kits to help those transitioning from homelessness
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Employees from Bremer Bank and United Way of Cass-Clay packed 700 kits with household items to help those overcoming homelessness. Which included dining and kitchen utensils, home cleaning materials, personal hygiene items and bedroom essentials.
“To have a thriving community you have to have stable, comfortable housing,” said Julie Whitney, the Bremer Bank Fargo/Moorhead Market President. “It’s critical, knowing that we can play a part in ensuring that individuals that are transitioning from homelessness, into their first homes, have a kit that have essentials that will help make their home feel more like a home.”
According to United Way, more than 1,000 people on any given night in Cass and Clay Counties experience homelessness. And around 200 of them are children.
“Bremer’s Home for Good home kits are really reaching people at this critical turning point in their lives,” said Taylor Syvertson, the United Way Director of Community Impact. “This opportunity to make a better life. To have stability and a safe place to live. And the impact they make is really significant.”
Ashley Littlewolf, who is with the Southeastern North Dakota Community Action Agency, has been a part of many people finding a home.
“But it is definitely rewarding. And sometimes it takes knocking down lots of barriers before we can finally get there. At the end to see someone feel relief and safe and gratitude for getting into their own place or completing a goal. That’s the best part of the job.” said Littlewolf, the self-suffiency coordinator.
The kits will be picked up on Thursday.
