QB Joshua Dobbs Enters Game; Amazes as Vikings Defeat Falcons 31-28 in Thriller
VIKINGS IMPROVE TO 5-4 WITH THRILLING WIN IN ATLANTA.
ATLANTA, G.A. (KVRR) — The last week has been a roller coaster of emotions for Minnesota Vikings fans. Starting Quarterback Kirk Cousins goes down with a season-ending achilles injury in last Sunday’s win over the Green Bay Packers, Josh Dobbs arrives in Minnesota via trade and 5th round rookie Jaren Hall gets named starting quarterback for Week 9.
Sunday’s 31-28 Vikings win continued that roller coaster. Jaren Hall started and drove the Vikings down the field on his second drive. Hall brought the Vikings down to the 1-yard line before attempting to run the ball in and getting a concussion. Hall finished the game 5-for-6 for 78 yards. Enter: Josh Dobbs. After arriving on Tuesday earlier in the week, he was flushed into the game and had a performance for the ages. 20-for-30, 158 yards and 2 passing touchdowns. Add one more touchdown and 66 rushing yards on the ground too. Unprecedented when you remember he knows very little of the offense or his teammates.
The Vikings were down 28-24 with just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter and Dobbs led the Vikings to a touchdown to Brandon Powell with 27 seconds remaining.
Dobbs is so new to the team, he did not know most of his teammates names prior to the game Sunday.
“If we had to pull up a roster of names, I’ll be a bad teammate today,”said Dobbs. “Names…that is for this week…that is an assignment for this week.”
Dobbs entered Sunday’s game without getting any first-team reps in practice. Yet, Dobbs put on a show and led the Vikings to their 4th straight win and a record over .500 for the first time this season.
With this performance, Dobbs is primed to start his first game with Minnesota next week when the Vikings take on the New Orleans Saints at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Other notes:
RB Cam Akers is said to have torn his achilles and will be out for the season, pending confirmation.
The Vikings defense forced two timely turnovers that allowed the comeback to happen.
TE T.J Hockenson led Vikings receivers with 7 receptions for 69 yards
QB Josh Dobbs led the Vikings in rushing with 66 yards on the ground.
K Greg Joseph was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points.
