Bobcat is opening a factory in Mexico

WEST FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Doosan Bobcat in West Fargo has announced plans to expand operations in Mexico. They will build a manufacturing plant in Monterrey where they plan to bring in 600 to 800 jobs to the region.

“Since 2019, our business has more than doubled,” said Mike Ballweber, Doosan Bobcat North America President. “And with that we’ve had some really unprecedented demand. Even in North America here. As we look forward to our planning stages at what our growth is. We see a lot of opportunity yet and we need more factory space. It’s a good thing, it’s all about the business continuing to grow.”

But how will this impact jobs in the U.S. Especially since some of the production will be leaving the Gwinner, N.D., location. Ballweber says that won’t be losing jobs in the region due to their growth company-wide.

“We have 20 percent growth between now and 2028 planned, we need the people that we have to build those products.” said Ballweber.

Part of the move is to bring production of its M-series compact loaders to Mexico, while the Gwinner location will focus more on the R-series. Bobcat says the estimated investment is $300 million.

Ballweber, who’s been with Bobcat since 1998, shares what it means to see it grow more and more on the international stage.

“Typically, Bobcat, most people think of a skid-steer loader and now that’s one of about 20 different products that we have out there. So it’s really exciting to see that brand growth.” said Ballweber.

The company plans to have production begin in early 2026 in Mexico.
