Shanley Football One Win Away From 22nd State Football Championship
The Deacons Take on Minot Friday Night in the Dakota Bowl
FARGO, N.D. — The Shanley Deacons can win their second consecutive State Football Championship and cap off a perfect season Friday with a win over Minot. The Deacons hope to win their 22nd State Football Championship Friday night. They come in having scored 533 points this year – that is 162 points than the next closest team in the EDC.
Deacons head coach, Troy Mattern earned EDC Coach of the year and is ready to cap off this season with what he calls a very special senior class with a repeat championship Friday. Despite all the success, until they hoist that trophy, it’s unfinished business for the Deacons.
“We got a player led locker room this year. We have a senior class that is unmatched. I’ve been around a long time and this senior class ranks up their with the best. We don’t have to tell this group a lot. Their expectations, their goals, everything they do it top notch and you can see behind me right now, they get after it in practice so what a lot of people don’t see Monday through Thursday is why we’re having success on Fridays,” said Mattern.
“It’s total unfinished business. Our record doesn’t mean anything, their record doesn’t mean anything. Its four quarters you got to bring your all 48 minutes and whoever brings their better game is going to win the game,” said Landon Meier.
“We try to take it week by week. One game at a time and you know last week was last week and last year was last year. It doesn’t matter anymore. So we like to take it week by week and I think that’s really helped us excel on the field,” said Jordan Leininger
“We just got to do our thing, just keep playing Shanley brand of football and just see how things play out,” said Joran Leininger.
