What you need to know this Deer Gun Hunting Season in North Dakota
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – With North Dakota’s Deer Gun Season beginning tomorrow Outreach biologist Doug Leier came into the studio to talk about what to look for this season.
With the weather conditions warmer than usual soft and muddy grounds will be a factor.
Leier said, “Like in this year with what we’ve had the last two days with maybe a little bit of moisture and just a little bit kind of dreary weather we’re really trying to advise the hunters that the road especially the side roads are going to be soft they’re going to be kind of muddy and there’s still a lot of farmers with a lot of work to do out there so we want to make sure the hunters aren’t rutting up the roads and tearing up the roads.”
Hunters also always need to be aware of the safety guidelines.
“One of the biggest barriers that we have is making sure that hunters realize that those safety reminders are for you, they’re not for everybody else. Sometimes they get a little bit relaxed and they think we” we’ve always done it this way but it can happen to you.” said Leier
Chronic Waste Disease is another element to be aware of during hunting season.
“We’re fortunate in North Dakota to not have significant issues as it stands and we want to continue to monitor for that and a lot of that comes back too. We need hunters to drop off the deer heads, that’s how we can test them and if we don’t get the deer heads we can’t do the testing but we do need and ask,” said Leier
Make sure to have your deer tested for CWD before eating it and dispose of the head at one of the Dear head collection sites for testing.
