‘Don’t give up’: After fighting for life, Minnesota woman is on the road to recovery
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Natasha Best, a 25-year-old woman who has been through a lot in the past year and a half. Best was facing life-threatening injuries in 2022 after she was crushed by an ATV in Minnesota.
“You either choose to be happy or you can sit and dwell on the bad.” says Best.
She broke her neck in two places, nine broken ribs, injured shoulder, damaged spine, the list goes on and on. She also became paralyzed.
“I’m not going to lie, I was sad in the beginning. I had to grieve my own life.” said Best.
When I spoke to Best last year when she was 23, she was still in the midst of trying to reconcile what had happened. Now, she’s looking to flip the script, and do something to fulfill her life. She got her own apartment after living in an assisted living facility for months, and she takes care of herself. And reunited with her dog BB for the first time in months.
“I thought I was going to have to give up my dog,” said Best. “Let alone, I didn’t think I was going to be able to take care of myself. The reuniting with my dog, she’s so much happier and I am. I’m just blessed to have my dog again and be able to live alone and not in a group home, or a nursing home or assisted living.”
Best also plans to move to Wyoming to be in a six-month welding program and is currently taking online courses as she reinvents her life. And not allowing her circumstances to slow her down.
“You have to grieve it, you have to grieve your past but don’t give up,” said Best. “Yeah, your life may be over but you have to start over. It’s a new life, it’s a new start.”
Best has two more surgeries coming up.
