Six Minnesota Flag Finalists draw Negative Feedback

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KVRR) – A special commission is collecting public comments on the six final entries chosen to replace the Minnesota State Flag.
After the Minnesota emblem redesign commission narrowed down the number of flags from nearly 2,200 to 6 in November.
The selections were posted for public opinion.
“Typically I read through them to see, are there notes of things that we could do to improve a design or a productive criticism. Other ones that are just angry and I don’t like this and why did you choose this and why didn’t you choose this and you should choose this instead.” Says State Emblems Redesign Commission member Aaron Wittnebel.
The comments however were not what most expected with many people posting negative feedback.
The flags were called amateur and some saying they do not represent the state.
“This latest round that people have talked about is people being upset that other flags weren’t chosen and that is disappointing if yours doesn’t get selected. It’s disappointing if you have sat and made a case for certain designs.” Said Wittnebel.
The commission will now be tasked with narrowing down the number of flags from six to three.
After the three flags are selected there will then be another opportunity for community input and then the final decision will hopefully be made around Christmas time.
The commission will be taking comments until Friday at noon.
