DAVIES EAGLES READY TO FLY INTO HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SEASON

DAVIES HOOPS COMES INTO THE 2023-24 SEASON WITH HIGH HOPES AND TREMENDOUS POTENTIAL

FARGO, N.D. — High School Basketball is back but not everyone has tipped off yet in the EDC. The Davies Eagles have high expectations for both their boys and girls teams this season as they both look to return to the State Tournament.

For the girls team, the Eagles look to once again win with excellent defense, a scrappy mentality, and a space and pace attack. The Eagles bring back three seniors, Karli Franks, Cadence Modin, and Ashton Safranski. Safranski led the EDC with 6.9 steals per game last year while scoring 19 points per contest as well. Safranski will be playing for the MSUM Dragons next season but this winter will being coached by her mom and leading the Eagles. The Eagles whole team has a family feel however and they look to make this season one to remember.

“We enjoy our time together on the court, in practices, and we enjoy the time that we have with all the girls on the court and it’s a special group of girls that have been playing together for quite some time and got good experience together as a group last year and we’re just looking to have a fun year,” said head coach, Tonah Safranski.

“We want to be EDC champs and obviously state champs as well. I feel like we didn’t really end the season the way that we wanted to so I think we want to get back out there finish this season strong,” said Ashton Safranski.

As for the guys, the Eagles were the team to beat last season cruising through the regular season with a 21-1 conference record; 24-3 overall. Davies was led by sophomore star, Mason Klabo who led the conference in points, 27.5, assists, 5.3, and was second in steals with 3.1 per game. Klabo went down with an injury late in the season however and was unable to return for tournament season. Key players emerged however in his absence and honed their skills down the stretch last year; now a junior, Klabo comes back to an experienced and hungry team that looks to prove they’re the best in the state.

“It gave some of our other guys who like I said just before who are back this year an opportunity to get more experience, minutes as far as maybe touching the ball a little bit more, getting some shots up, having a larger role on the team, but we’ll take number 3 in the line up any day of the week,” said head coach, Bart Manson.

“I’m super motivated. I’m ready to go and obviously last year I got cut short of my season and this year, it’s go time now so.. just getting better every day.. you know we’re not going to be great right away, but if we keep pushing, keep climbing those steps, we’re at the top of the steps in March; that’s where we want to be,” said junior guard, Mason Klabo.
