With flu cases rising, Sanford Health says it’s time to get your shot

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Just like most healthcare providers across the country, Sanford Health in Fargo is ready for this years flu season.

“We are right at the beginning of the flu season and I think next couple weeks we’ll hear a lot more about influenza cases in the community.” says infectious disease specialist at Sanford Dr. Avish Nagpal.

With positive cases of Influenza growing across the country, experts say getting your annual shot is important.

“We had not seen to many cases back in October November but now as the holidays are approaching, flu season is approaching too. We are seeing some increase in positive tests coming through our labs,” says Nagpal.

Some common symptoms to look out for are a runny nose, sneezing, coughing, sore throat, and fever.

“The fever and the fatigue and the body aches you’ll remember them and you’ll remember them for life once you have influenza,” said Nagpal

If you are beginning to feel symptoms don’t try to be a hero.

“If you are sick, try to stay home. Sometimes it’s easier said than done but it’s important to not spread it to your loved ones or colleagues, some of them may have underlying medical conditions you don’t know of,” said Nagpal.

The CDC has seen nearly a 7% increase in flu cases this week alone.

Sanford health says the hospitalizations from the flu this year have been minimal, so far.
