BELTRAMI COUNTY, Minn. (KVRR) — A small plane landed and broke through the ice on Upper Red Lake.

Beltrami County officials say it was a Cessna 172 Sky Hawk.

The pilot and passenger were able to make it out safely.

The plane had departed from Grand Rapids this morning with a destination of Upper Red Lake for a day of ice fishing.

When the pilot was landing, the plane was having difficulty slowing down with the lack of snow. The plane slid to an area of thin ice and that’s when it broke through.

Arrangements have been made to remove the airplane.
