FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Freezing rain in the region is making conditions not so pleasant for those looking to fly out of Fargo. But it could have been much worse for Hector International Airport according to officials.

Not too many flights were canceled or delayed. Crews were kept busy with applying chemicals on the runway, taxi areas and ramps to keep the planes moving without issues.

“Runway has been in good shape throughout the entire process because of our great airfield crews that we have,” said Shawn Dobberstein, the executive director for the Airport Authority. “The airlines on the other hand did have some issues. There’s an automated surface observation system near the airfield that is maintained by the National Weather Service. That was reporting moderate freezing rain. In those conditions most of the carriers won’t operate. If it was light freezing rain they certainly could have.”

A reminder for those that are flying during the holidays to give yourself some extra time.
