CASS COUNTY, N.D. (KVRR) – Cass County Electric Cooperative says customers could wait until the weekend or later for the full power system to be restored.

CCEC estimates between 250 and 300 power poles broke during the Christmas Day ice storm.

Repair efforts will depend on weather, road conditions and how much more damage crews find.

Crews from Roughrider Electric, Mckenzie Electric and Burke-Divide Electric Cooperatives are in the area helping Cass County Electric.

Their power supplier, Minnkota Power Cooperative, is also working on transmission and substation issues in addition to Cass County Electric’s system damage.

As of Wednesday morning, CCEC’s website shows more than 3,500 customers still without power.

CCEC recommends customers invest in a generator or have other backup plans.
