About 50 people rescued from Lake of the Woods

LAKE OF THE WOODS, Minn. (KVRR) — About 50 people are rescued from Lake of the Woods on New Years Day.
The sheriff’s office says they got a report of about 20 to 25 people stranded on the northside of a pressure ridge that cracked open around 3 p.m.
Long Point Resort used a boat to bring people to the southside where they used an UTV and snowmobile to bring people to shore.
Lake of the Woods Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota DNR helped in the rescue.
Earlier in the afternoon, they were notified of a male who broke through the ice on an ATV.
He got out with no injuries.
