RECAP: No.4 NoDak Sweeps Alaska Behind Freshman Goaltender

HAWKS WIN 6-4, 6-2 EN ROUTE TO WEEKEND SWEEP.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR)– The Hawks offense exploded both nights for 6 goals. With starting goaltender Ludvig Perrson out this weekend with an illness, the hot offense gave freshman goaltender Hobie Hedquist a cushion and two wins to open his career.

It was senior forward Reise Gaber leading the charge offensivly for the hawks with six total points on the weekend: 2 goals and an assist on Friday night, and a goal and two assists on Saturday night.

Head coach Brad Berry praised the leadership of Gaber after the weekend series.

“It is what he does on a continuous basis every week,” said Berry. “I think he was goalless in three games or whatever, but you know, he just keeps working. His leadership is shining through at this time of year right now and I can’t say enough about him on and off the ice as a person and as a player.”

Freshman Hobie Hedquist finished the weekend with two wins between the pipes and six total goals against. His team commended him for his poise and play.

“[He was] rock solid,” said graduate student forward Hunter Johannes. “Like you come in and you don’t know that you’re gonna play and then you step up to the plate as a freshman at the biggest program in college hockey. You can’t ask for more out of a guy.”

“I was super happy for him,” said senior forward Reise Gaber. “He [was a UND fan growing] up and I can’t imagine how he felt getting these two ones. And, you know, obviously, we want to play really well for him and yeah, we’re just super happy for him.”
